How To

8 Reasons To Line Dry Your Clothes

Mar 29, 2021

Did you know that line drying not only helps save energy but also preserves your items’ colors, shapes, and elasticity? Here, some more reasons why you should hang to dry—even if you’ve got a dryer!

how to line dry

First: If you live in a city and don’t have a backyard to line dry, you can always do it indoors. Try an indoor clothesline or a drying rack.

1. Conserves energy. According to the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers, air-drying clothes can reduce the average household’s carbon footprint by 2,400 pounds a year. Experts determined that if all Americans line-dried clothing for just half of a year, it would save 3.3 percent of the country’s total residential output of carbon dioxide.

2. Saves money. Less energy used=less your electricity bill will be. Win!

3. Freshens clothes. There’s nothing better than fresh air to refresh your clothes, no matter if they’re wet or dry. Need to refresh a piece between washes? Hang it up to give it some air and kick odor.

4. Brightens. The sun’s ultraviolet rays help to whiten and eliminate bacteria. That said, we suggest air drying your bright colored items inside to avoid them from fading.

5. Increases longevity of fabrics. The dryer can wear down your items over time, fading colors and messing with their shapes and elasticity.

6. Prevents static cling. The dryer’s moisture-less heat causes static electricity. Air drying will prevent this.

7. Gives you more flexibility. Letting a load sit in the dryer after it’s done can cause wrinkling. You can leave your pieces to line dry for as long as you’d like without worrying about them creasing (just make sure rain isn’t in the forecast!).

8. Encourages family chores. This is a great task for children, so long as they’re tall enough to reach!

After removing your dry items from the clothesline, combat any creasing with our Crease Release Spray.
