How To Care For Wool Blankets & Rugs

Between body oil, pet hair, dirt, and dust, the throw blankets and rugs that keep our homes cozy need regular cleaning just like our clothes. Our simple moves will give them a complete refresh.

To Wash Wool Rugs & Blankets:

Throw Blankets

Snuggle up to these cleaning tips for blankets made of cashmere, wool, faux fur, merino, agora, cotton, polyester, or blends.

WASH: Machine wash your throw blankets with our gentle cleanser for natural fibers, Wool & Cashmere Shampoo. First, pretreat any stains. Then, place your blanket in the machine and select the delicate/woolens cycle and cold water. Our Wool & Cashmere Shampoo formula can also be used to handwash in a basin or bath tub with cool water. Lay flat to dry on a rack or clean, dry towel.

REFRESH: In between washes, freshen blankets by steaming with a handheld steamer. Knit blankets can also be brushed using a fine fabric dust to remove lint and pet hair.

Rugs

Keep your home clean from the ground up with rug reviving tips for rugs made of any type of fabric.

WASH: Many rugs these days can be washed in the machine! If your rug is tagged as washable, start by thoroughly vacuuming or brushing excess dirt and pet hair from your rug. Next, place inside the washing machine after pretreating stains. Add the appropriate amount of Wool & Cashmere Shampoo and select a delicate, cold cycle. For everyday fabrics like synthetics or cotton, Signature Detergent can be used instead. Air dry rugs as needed, or use an air fluff setting. We love adding Wool Dryer Balls to help make drying larger items more efficient.

Pro Tip: Always check manufacturer recommendations before washing rugs to avoid any mishaps.

REFRESH: Regularly vacuuming rugs is key to helping prevent odor-causing buildup. A steamer can also be used to help rejuvenate fibers. If possible, take rugs outside periodically to shake them out thoroughly to release buildup, then let air for a few hours.
