Canvas

Plain-woven fabric made of cotton, linen, or hemp. Extremely durable and sturdy, it’s often used for sneakers and totes. Cotton canvas is suitable for long-term storage, as it’s breathable and moth resistant.

How To Clean Canvas

Spot Treat

Some canvas will lose stiffness and structure when laundered. To prevent changes in the material or construction, we recommend spot treating.

To spot treat, wet the Wash & Stain Bar and gently work into the stained area(s).

Remove soap and dirt with a wet Lint-Free Cleaning Cloth—be sure to remove all soap. Dampen the cloth as needed, and repeat the process until satisfied.

Skip to the Dry & Finish step, and continue by steaming.

How To Clean Canvas

Pretreat

When washing, always pretreat stains with Stain Solution or the Wash & Stain Bar.

Stain Solution is ideal for protein and tannin stains, such as wine, coffee, ink, grass, urine, blood, and old, set-in stains.

The Wash & Stain Bar works the material to remove dirt, grease, oil, and makeup.

To remove odor, presoak the item for 30 minutes in hot water mixed with ¼ cup of Scented Vinegar.

How To Clean Canvas

Machine Wash

Wash canvas with Signature Detergent on the normal cycle with hot water to achieve the deepest clean.

Wash with like colors and fabrics only.

If your canvas item is dirty, dingy, or has mildew, add a capful of All-Purpose Bleach Alternative to the pretreat or wash cycle.

How To Clean Canvas

Dry & Finish

Cotton and linen can withstand tumble drying with high heat; however, canvas items (such as tote bags and sneakers) are best line-dried to preserve shape.

To remove wrinkles, iron on the highest temperature setting, or steam.

To freshen between uses, spritz with Fabric Fresh Classic. It’s a safe, nontoxic, allergen-free fabric spray that adds scent while removing odor!

How To Clean Canvas

Store

Always store items clean.

Storing in plastic encourages yellowing and can trap mildew-causing moisture, a prime environment for bugs.

All techniques are based on textile science. Not all garments perform and react as science would predict.
