Things We Love | Holiday Hosting

Dec 20, 2017

‘Tis the season to eat, drink, and be merry! Gwen and Lindsey are gearing up for the season’s festivities and getting ready to ring in the new year with family and friends. Read on to find out their favorite holiday entertaining traditions, including the drinks, dishes, and décor that help them set the mood!

How are the Laundress ladies celebrating this year?

Gwen and her husband James are preparing for their 2nd Christmas at home and continue to create their own new traditions! Meanwhile, Lindsey and her family can't wait to get jolly at the Weiber/Boyd grand Christmas gathering.

Deck the Halls

1. FRESH EVERGREEN | SOHO TREES
Nothing says Season’s Greetings like fresh evergreen! Gwen gets into the festive spirit by hanging garlands on the porch and mantle every year. Lindsey loves dressing the table with cedar branches and bright berries that will last through the holidays. These ladies pick theirs up at the local flower district in NYC, but any nearby farm will do!

2. CANDLEHOLDER STRING | FERM LIVING
Lindsey gets her glow on with lots of candles, and has her eye on this customizable candleholder. Arrange the wooden pearls for a stunning centerpiece.

3. DIY STOCKINGS | FOOD 52
Last year, Gwen broke out into her old church school crafts and personalized each stocking. The more glitter, the better!

4. SENTIMENTAL ORNAMENTS | PINTEREST
Lindsey and her kids make new ornaments every year to add to the tree. Bows are tied to the end of the branches for a sweet touch.

Gwen and her husband James enjoy decorating the tree with a mix of her favorite childhood ornaments and new ones they’ve collected over the years.

5. ALCHIMIE PLATTER | L'OBJET
Lindsey is pulling out the nice serveware for holiday hosting, and this gold speckled platter is fitting!

Sip and Celebrate

1. FARMSTAND EGGNOG | RONNYBROOK
Gwen and friends love kicking off the holidays with an eggnog taste off using only the finest farmstand eggnog to mix with.

2. BOTTLE OF WHITE | HENRI BOURGEOIS
Wine enthusiasts Lindsey and her husband will be starting the night off right with an elegant Sancerre that pairs perfectly with seafood, fish, and poultry.

3. BOTTLE OF RED | DOMAINE PATRICK MIOLANE
The Boyd family loves a good Burgundy, and this savory classic is no exception.

4. HAPPY HOLIDAYS COCKTAIL | ABHSS
Looking for a winter warm up? Lindsey loves getting guests started with this bright and cheery pomegranate cocktail.

Dish Out the Menu

1. CROSTINI | THE KITCHEN GIRL
Lindsey pairs baguette crostini with roasted garlic and homemade pesto for an easy, crowd-pleasing appetizer combination—an idea borrowed from her brother!

2. GIN AND JUNIPER ROAST CHICKEN | EASY PEASY FOODIE
Last year, Gwen tried preparing this drunk bird and it made the new tradition list!

3. SEAFOOD BOUILLABAISSE | FOOD & WINE
A Wieber Christmas Eve Tradition, Lindsey’s mother sets the festive tone by serving a flavorful bouillabaisse that never fails to impress!

Satisfy the Sweet Tooth

1. SUGAR COOKIES | SOUTHERN LIVING
There is no holiday without a Christmas sugar cookie! Gwen and Lindsey celebrate family traditions by making these classic treats every year.

Green Christmas Trees are a favorite of Lindsey’s (as a child and adult), and have now become her kids’ favorite! As this year will be Lindsey’s first Christmas without her beloved grandmother – who would make cookies for family and friends every year – she will be continuing the tradition by making these cookies with her children.

Gwen’s family cookie cutters include an ode to the cheese state, along with stockings and canes! She skips the icing in favor of colored sugars bought over the summer while vacationing. This year, she’ll be experimenting with a variety of flavor extracts for a twist!

2. CRANBERRY SAGE PIE | FOUR & TWENTY BLACKBIRDS
Gwen's husband James is the pie guy and this one is a very festive hit! Perfect for the season, Gwen highly recommends taking it to the next level with fresh cranberries from the farmers market.

3. CHRISTMAS KRINGLE | BENDTSEN'S BAKERY
During a recent trip to the motherland, Gwen gave a nod to her family’s Wisconsin heritage by enjoying a Christmas Kringle at the renowned Bendtsen's Bakery in Racine. She was sure to stock up at "Kringleville" and shipped boxes to family and cousins to enjoy. The cranberry with icing is particularly festive!

4. CHEX MIX | HALF BAKED HARVEST
Balance the sweet with some savory! In addition to homemade candy and cookies, Lindsey's grandmother was sure to make her infamous homemade chex mix for the holidays.

Family Fun

1. CHRISTMAS PAGEANT | BRIDGEHAMPTON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
For Gwen, no Christmas is complete without a good old Christmas Pageant like what she had growing up. She continues the tradition by enjoying Christmas Eve at her local church.

2. CLASSIC CHARADES | PBS
The Boyd family is all about games! Charades is always a big hit with the little ones around, and they're sure to pick appropriate characters as ages span from 4-94!

3. LETTERS FROM SANTA | MR. BODDINGTON'S STUDIO
Lindsey’s kids always write letters to Santa with these fabulous letters, and get so excited when they receive a handwritten response from Kris Kringle himself!

4. GINGERBREAD HOUSE | DYLAN'S CANDY BAR
Lindsey and her kids can't wait to host an annual gingerbread house play date with her friend's kids!

5. CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR | RADIO CITY ROCKETTES
The Radio City Rockettes always make the cut on Lindsey's list—a tradition that started when she was a child. The dazzling show never fails to fill the family with holiday cheer.
