How-To | Organize Lingerie Drawers

Feb 8, 2018

Keeping your lingerie drawer clean and clutter-free can be a real challenge. If you’ve opened your drawer only to find a tangled jumble of flimsy underwear, padded bras, and slinky camisoles, we’ve got tips for you! We tapped professional organizer Shira Gill for some simple steps for sorting out, editing, and organizing intimates.

5 STEPS TO A CLUTTER-FREE LINGERIE DRAWER

STEP 1:
PREP

Gather up all of your undergarments together into one area. Remove everything from your drawers, and make sure to round up items that may be in your laundry room, or delicates bag, so you can get an accurate count.

STEP 2:
SORT

Now that you’ve gathered all of the goods into one area, sort everything into broad categories by type – ie. underwear, bras, camisoles, slips, shapewear, etc. Each category should get its own pile so you can take a quick visual inventory of what you own.

STEP 3:
EDIT

Editing is the most important step in any makeover project. Think about what you require for your current life, and ditch anything that feels like it’s done its job or seen better days.

Make sure to let go of anything that doesn’t fit properly and toss items that have holes or warped padding or underwire. You should be left with only the items that fit and flatter. (If you need to invest in a few new items to fill in any wardrobe gaps just jot them down.)

STEP 4:
ORGANIZE

Once you’ve completed editing, put everything back neatly, organized by type. Remember to wipe down your drawers and designate a clear, easy-to-access space for your underwear, bras, and daily use items.

Make sure your bras get plenty of room so you can lay them out instead of folding the cups into each other which will warp the shape over time. Camisoles, slips, and shapewear for special events can be stored together in a less accessible drawer or even tucked in a labeled bin or basket in your closet.

STEP 5:
MAINTAIN

Life can get messy, but your lingerie drawer doesn’t have to! Treat your items with care so they will last longer, and take a few minutes each day to put things back where they belong so you can keep your closet looking its best. Happy organizing!
