How To

How-To | Clean Your Trash Can

Oct 26, 2016

A full house for the holidays inevitably results in an overeating trash bin. From festive dinner parties and sweet splurges, to ambitious recipes and lots of leftovers, odors and bacteria can quickly build up. Don’t let the foul aftermath throw you off. When the party is over, but the odors are lingering, turn to our how-to for that fresh “can” smell.

Gather These Tools:

All-Purpose Cleaning Concentrate, All-Purpose Bleach Alternative, Scrub Brush, Scented Vinegar, Lint-Free Cleaning Cloths

First things first, take out the trash. Remove the trash bag and any food particles that may have settled at the bottom of your bin.

Soak & Scrub

Pour two capfuls of All-Purpose Cleaning Concentrate, one capful of All-Purpose Bleach Alternative, and two cups of hot water to dilute. Let the solution do the dirty work—allow it to sit for 10 minutes.

Using the Scrub Brush, scrub away any stubborn debris. Pay special attention to any gunk that may have gotten caked onto the bottom and sides of the can.

Rinse Away

Using a large sink, bathtub, or an outdoor hose (if you have access), pour the solution out and thoroughly rinse away any residue. Wipe dry with a Lint-Free Cleaning Cloth, or air dry in the sun to help further eliminate mold and mildew.

If any foul smells are lingering, fill the bottom of the can with 1 cup of Scented Vinegar. Add warm water – up to about 2 inches. Swirl the solution around and let sit for 30 minutes. Then, rinse and wipe dry with a Lint-Free Cleaning Cloth. Revel in the fresh, new “can” smell.
