Pizza sauce setbacks and olive oil overdoses can send even the most seasoned stain expert into a tizzy. We’ve been there. Luckily, these steps will take you into stain free territory before you can say “hold the anchovies!"

Pass the Pizza!

Tomato sauce is a family favorite gracing everything from pizza to spaghetti and occasionally, clothing and upholstery too. When this stain strikes, follow these steps.

GATHER THESE TOOLS:

Stain Solution, Stain Brush, Your Favorite Laundress Detergent

STEP 1:

Apply Stain Solution directly to the affected area. Work the solution into the fabric using your finger or the Stain Brush. This step works for spot cleaning upholstery as well as clothing and other washable materials.

STEP 2:

For added cleaning power, pour boiling water from a kettle onto the affected area. (Pour from a safe height so the water won't splash on you.) The force of the pouring water helps to do the work. You can also use hot water from a faucet set to its highest water pressure output. If working with spot clean only upholstery, wet a Lint-Free Cleaning Cloth with warm water and gently blot the affected area until the stain disappears. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as necessary.

*For stain removal on silk and wool use tepid water. Do not soak silk longer than 30 minutes.

STEP 3:

Following the item's care instructions, launder with your favorite detergent from The Laundress. If the stain is still visible, hang the item to dry and repeat the process.

Oil All Over the Place

Whether you're cooking, eating or cleaning up after a young foodie, the sight of an oil or grease stained piece can bring on a sense of panic. Despite this stain's dreadful appearance, it can be removed with these steps.

GATHER THESE TOOLS:

Wash & Stain Bar, Wash Basin, Bleach Alterative, Your Favorite Laundress Detergent

STEP 1:

Apply our Wash & Stain Bar, specially formulated to remove grease-based stains. Create a lather using the soap and gently work it into the material. Make sure to use hot water.

STEP 2:

Soak the item in a basin filled with hot water for up to 30 minutes. For more mature or stubborn stains, add a capful of our All-Purpose Bleach Alternative to the basin. If the stain is not completely gone following this step, repeat this process until satisfied.

STEP 3:

Launder the item according to the regular washing instructions.
