@everydaydrew Asks The Laundress: How Do I Get Rid of Ring-Around-The-Collar

May 23, 2016

For Drew Westphal of menswear blog "Everyday Drew", clothing is an investment and he wants to ensure each piece not only fits well and looks good, but is able to stand the test of time.

One problem that he constantly runs into during the summer months is the all too common ring-around-the-collar! That's why he asked The Laundress, "How to get rid of stubborn stains around my light colored shirt collars."

What's classified as "ring-around-the-collar"?

Ring-around-the-collar, usually yellowish or brown in color, gradually builds up overtime and appears on your shirt. It's caused by sweat, body oils, body products, and the environment seeping into fabric, especially in the areas which are close to the body, such as collars and cuffs.

Pretreat Stains

Target Tough Stains: Single out the stain and grab the Wash & Stain Bar. Use this vegetable soap to pretreat the soiled area by lathering it with warm water and working it into the fabric.

Soak If Stubborn: If the stain is particularly tough, soak the shirt in a bath of hot water and one capful of All-Purpose Bleach Alternative. Leave to soak for at least 30 minutes. We only recommend this step for dress shirts made of cotton, linen, or a durable synthetic.

Be One Step Ahead: Ward off ring-around-the-collar by pretreating shirts before every wash. Simply apply Stain Solution on target areas as a pretreat and follow by laundering as normal.
