How to Clean Ring Around the Collar Stains

Cleaning Collar Discoloration – A Persistent Laundry Challenge

Ring around the collar – that stain that, if spotted by others can be quite embarassing. You might see the discoloration on your dress shirts and wonder how to clean ring-around-the-collar stains once and for all. Luckily, a little extra attention will solve this problem and keep it at bay.

Why Does Ring Around the Collar Happen? How Can I Get Rid of It?

The staining commonly referred to as “ring around the collar” is a result of body oils, sweat and grooming products collecting and discoloring right where the edge of your shirt rubs against your skin and hair. Similar yellow or brown lines can often be seen at your cuffs. Removing collar discoloration is easy with the Wash and Stain Bar – simply lather and work the vegetable-based soap into the stain. If the stain sticks around, you can pretreat the shirt in water (use the warmest temperature allowed by the fabric type) with a capful of All-Purpose Bleach Alternative. Then, once you have the stain under control, remember to pretreat the garment with the Stain Solution before every wash to keep the buildup from coming back. Just like that, you’ll have solved this age-old dilemma for all time!
