Lululemon, an athleisure wear company inspired by observations made about ill-fitting cotton clothing in a yoga class, has its own trademarked fabric and fabric quality, in luon. Luon fabric is mostly made of nylon, but it's the Lycra in luon material that gives these pants a nice stretch and help keep you cool during a workout. But, you need to know how to wash lululemon leggings to make sure they last.

Lululemon pants have transcended the yoga class and are the go-to for errands and laid-back weekends. This inspired us to put together a luon fabric best practices guide where we answer your lululemon washing questions like "How to hand wash Lululemon", "How to clean Lululemon yoga mat stains" and "Can you bleach Lululemon items?"

pre-treat with the wash and stain bar

Washing your mesh Lululemon leggings starts with pretreatment. Pretreat stains with Stain Solution or the Wash & Stain Bar. Focus on susceptible areas such as underarms, necklines, and waistbands.

Stain Solution is ideal for protein and tannin stains, such as wine, coffee, ink, grass, urine, blood, and old, set-in stains such as pit stains.

The Wash & Stain Bar works the material to remove dirt, grease, oil, sunscreen, and makeup. Use the bar to target straps, sports bras, and waistbands.

To remove odors, presoak the item for 30 minutes in cool water mixed with 1/4 cup of Scented Vinegar.

Handwashing is the best and safest method for washing Luon.

Add 2 capfuls or a squirt of Sport Detergent to a washbasin or sink filled with cool water.

Submerge the item and gently agitate the water with your hands to evenly distribute soap. Soak for up to 30 minutes.

Rinse well by running cool water through the item until the water is no longer soapy. Do not wring. Instead, press the water out of the item.

Turn the item inside out, and place it in a Mesh Washing Bag to preserve elasticity and prevent tearing and snagging in the washing machine.

Select the delicate cycle and use cool water. Add the appropriate amount of Sport Detergent according to the machine and load size.

For especially sweaty, dirty, or musty items, such as athletic uniforms and sportswear, add 2 capfuls of All-Purpose Bleach Alternative and use a normal cycle.

Dry & Finish

Always air-dry activewear and performance fabrics! The high heat of the dryer will reduce the fabric?s elasticity and moisture-wicking properties, air drying is the best way to dry lululemon leggings.

Spritz your lululemon clothing with Sport Spray to remove odors and freshen everything from sneakers, gym bags, and lockers to yoga mats and sports equipment.

Use the Hotel Laundry Bag to keep sweaty workout gear separate from the clean, dry items in your bag.

store in a cotton zip storage bag

Always store items clean. We recommend storing in a breathable cotton storage bag to protect items from bugs.

Storing in plastic encourages yellowing and can trap mildew-causing moisture, a prime environment for bugs.

All techniques are based on textile science. Not all garments perform and react as science would predict.
