Protein/Food: Wool

The Solution

Protein stains are biological and come from human and animal substances, such as egg yolk, milk, perspiration, vomit, and bodily fluids. While even the sight of these stains is enough to send many into a panic, never fear. These, too, can be effectively treated and removed.

Note for urine stains: If the item is stained with urine, before following the steps below, soak the item in a basin of tepid/lukewarm water mixed with cup white vinegar (we use our Scented Vinegar). This will break down the uric acid to remove the stain.

Apply product: Apply Stain Solution directly to the affected area.

Work the stain: Work the solution into the fabric using your finger. Or, if your item has looser yarns, use our Wash & Stain Bar. Wet the bar and work the affected area.

Pour water on the stain: For added cleaning power, put the affected area under the faucet and let the pressure of the tepid/lukewarm water help work the stain. (When treating bloodstains, always use cold water.)

Soak up to 30 minutes: Soak the item in a basin filled with tepid/lukewarm water. (When treating bloodstains, always use cold water.)

Reapply or repeat as needed: If the stain is not completely gone, repeat this process until satisfied.

Launder the item: Wash according to our washing instructions.

Our recommendations: Our recommended stain and odor removal methods are solely based on use with The Laundress products. Our products are safe for colors, darks, and whites. We cannot guarantee the safety or success of products from other brands.

Using bleach: We don?t recommend using chlorine bleach on stains or odors, ever. Not only does chlorine bleach deteriorate, degrade, and weaken fibers, it?s not color-safe. In fact, it can cause whites to yellow and make certain stains even worse, such as rust stains. Instead, we use All-Purpose Bleach Alternative. Like all products by The Laundress, it?s color-safe.

Drying: Do not put stained items in the dryer.

Ironing: Do not press stained items.
