How To Wash Embellished Items Like Sequins & Embroidery
One of the most exciting parts of the holiday season is all the razzle dazzle—dresses, skirts, and blouses adorned with gleamy sequins, elegant pearls, decorative buttons, and delicate embroidery. They have the ability to instantly make you and any event feel magical. Post-festivities, preserve your sparkle with our po washing, refreshing, and storing moves that’ll protect and preserve your decorative ‘lil treasures so you can sparkle in them holiday after holiday… or heck, all year long, if you want.
Tackle stains with Stain Solution (for color-rich stains like wine, chocolate, and fruit) or the Wash & Stain Bar (for oil-based stains like makeup and salad dressing). Focus on susceptible areas such as underarms, necklines, and cuffs, too. Soak the item in cool water for up to 30 minutes.
Handwashing is always the best and safest method for washing embellished items. Add two capfuls or a squirt of Delicate Wash to a washbasin or sink filled with cool water.
Submerge the item and gently swirl the water with your hands to distribute the soap. Soak for up to 30 minutes, then rinse well by running cool water through the item until the water is no longer soapy. Do not wring. Instead, press the water out of the item against the edge of your basin or sink.
OR MACHINE WASH
If you are short on time and need to machine wash, turn items inside out and place in a Mesh Washing Bag to protect embellishments.
Select the delicate cycle on the washing machine, and make sure the water temperature is cold and the spin is on low.
Lay the item flat in its natural shape on a drying rack or hang to dry. Do not put it in the dryer!
To remove wrinkles, we recommend steaming for the best and safest finish. If you don't have a steamer, you can use an iron by hovering over the item using the steam setting or spritz with Crease Release.
Sequined items are often heavy, so it is best to store them folded to avoid the stress and distortion caused by hanging. Always store items clean. We recommend storing in a breathable cotton storage bag to protect items from bugs and prevent yellowing.
