Learn How To Wash a Down Pillow

How To Wash Down Pillows Right at Home

Wondering how to wash down pillows, or if you can even wash down pillows at all? Down pillows, and pillow cases are one of those items people often wonder whether or not they can wash at home, with typical liquid detergent. We're here to tell you that you can wash down pillows, and it's necessary to do so. It can be done with Wool & Cashmere Shampoo, our enzyme-free formula for gentle at-home laundering. Once you're ready to wash, set the washing machine to the delicate or woolens cycle. You may need to do one at a time so as not to overload your machine, though two will often fit.

When it comes time to dry your down pillows, it is ideal to add Wool Dryer Balls or clean tennis balls to your dryer. Dry your pillows on low heat with the tennis balls to naturally fluff pillows during the dry cycle. Switch the setting to air dry with no heat to finish off the pillows. We recommend removing the pillows halfway through the drying cycle and vigorously shaking to help prevent clumping. Be sure that they are completely dry before using, as mildew can form and your down pillows can smell after washing. Down can overheat, so be sure to use low heat for the entire drying cycle.
