How To Clean Your Washer & Dryer

Don’t forget about your washing machine and dryer because they need some cleaning love, too! Scary truth: Washing machines are prone to mold and mildew (major ick) that will hinder your clothes from smelling clean. Take our deep cleaning moves for a spin!

Estimated Time: 1.5 Hours (5 min prep + cycle time)

The Washer

STEP 1: Run It

Empty your machine. Before cleaning, always be sure to check your machine's manual for any special deep cleaning instructions.

Start by adding ½ cup pure white vinegar to the machine dispenser and 2 tablespoons of a chlorine-free, oxygen-based bleach alternative to the drum, then run your machine with hot water for a long load.

After your cleaning cycle is finished, run one more short cycle with hot water to rinse any excess residue before your next wash cycle.

NOTE: Oxygen bleach in powder or bead form should be added directly to the machine drum or detergent dispenser. Never add it to your machine’s bleach dispenser.

STEP 2: Finishing Touch

Wipe down your fabric softener and bleach dispensers with a wet cloth or by spritzing with your favorite household surface cleaner. Don't forget to wipe down the outside of the machine, too!

The Dryer

STEP 1: Lose the Lint

The dryer drum collects lint which can leave fuzzy stuff behind on your clean clothing, and affect the efficiency of the dryer over time. To beat the fuzz, wipe down the inside of the dryer regularly with a damp cotton or microfiber cleaning cloth.

STEP 2: Don't Forget Your Filter

Remember to clean the dryer filter after each use as a clogged filter can restrict airflow and reduce your dryer’s performance. It’s also a fire hazard! Check your machine's manual for instructions on how to properly care for the filter.

We recommend following these steps every month to every other month to keep things extra clean.
