Ask the Laundress
My question is this. I just got a new puppy and much to my surprise, the breeder did not house train her. She has peed on my Turkish rug and left a stain. What product can I use that is strong enough to get rid of the stain, yet gentle enough to not ruin the antique rug?
As Turkish rugs may show discoloration when wet, you should first test a small, inconspicuous area of the rug with water before treating. Simply wet an isolated area and wait to dry. If the tested area returns to its former color, it should be safe to spot treat.
To spot treat the puppy stain, first apply white vinegar, such as The Laundress Scented Vinegar, to a Laundress Scrub Brush or Laundress Lint-Free Cleaning Cloth and gently scrub the soiled area. The vinegar will help break down the uric acid to remove the stain. Next, lather the The Laundress Wash & Stain Bar with tepid water and gently work it into the carpet as well. Wipe the suds clean with a damp Laundress Lint-Free Cleaning Cloth and let air dry. If the stain isn’t removed after the initial attempt, you may have to repeat this process.
